A Chiropractor Changed My Life
As a young boy, I experienced what I thought was the worst flu imaginable—sharp, unrelenting pain that felt like a hot poker twisting through my back and into my gut. It robbed me of my ability to focus on school, play with friends, or enjoy life. I was miserable. A family friend suggested I see a chiropractor, and I was skeptical. “The flu? How could a chiropractor help with that?” I thought. But desperate for relief, I gave it a shot. After my first adjustment, something incredible happened—the “flu” vanished. I was stunned. My chiropractor explained that a misalignment in my spine had been irritating the nerves connected to my small intestine, mimicking flu-like symptoms. By correcting that interference, my body healed itself. I didn’t even have a backache—just a life-changing lesson in the power of chiropractic care.
That experience planted a seed. Years later, while pursuing a premed path toward becoming a medical doctor, I heard a radio report about a woman permanently harmed by a medical procedure. It shook me. I imagined myself in that doctor’s position, grappling with the guilt of causing irreversible harm. When I shared this with my wife, she asked, “Why not become a Doctor of Chiropractic instead?” It clicked. Chiropractic had given me my life back as a child, and I knew it was a safe, natural way to help people—safer, I’d learned, than even taking a Tylenol. So, after earning my bachelor’s degree, I enrolled at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, to pursue my Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree.
My Chiropractic Journey
I grew up in Oregon, Illinois, attending schools in the Oregon Illinois School District in Ogle County. I cherished the tight-knit community and the lifelong friendships I forged there. After graduating from Oregon Community High School, I earned an Associate’s degree in Science from Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, Illinois. I then completed my Bachelor’s degree with a premed focus at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. My chiropractic education took me to Palmer College of Chiropractic in the Quad Cities, where I earned my DC degree. Later, I added a Certificate of Acupuncture from National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, Illinois, to further expand my ability to serve my patients.
A Chiropractic Family
I met my wonderful wife, Kristy, at church in Rockford, Illinois. After a year and a half of courtship, we married on August 10, 1996, in Pine River, Minnesota. Today, we’re proud parents to Rachel Marie and Remington Drake. We love country living, riding our Honda ATVs, and staying active in our faith community at Turning Point Community Church in Dixon, Illinois.
Chiropractic isn’t just my profession—it’s our way of life. My family, including my wife, children, and extended relatives, all receive regular adjustments. We’ve seen firsthand how chiropractic care enhances our health and quality of life. It’s helped us with everything from ear infections, colic, and bedwetting to colds, abnormal gait, menstrual discomfort, dizziness, headaches, and even nerve-related pain in the arms and legs. We stay adjusted because we believe in thriving, not just surviving.
